Mikel Arteta has voiced fears that his squad's chase for titles this campaign is being threatened by a worrying cycle of injuries and a grueling schedule.

Star player Declan Rice did not travel for the Champions League clash to Belgium due to illness. In addition, attacker Leandro Trossard and defender William Saliba remain on the sidelines.

There was, however, positive news regarding Gabriel Jesus, with the South American striker added to their Champions League squad. He replaces the hurt youngster Max Dowman, who picked up an foot injury.

"Practice, no because we don't have time to train. But obviously the fact that you are missing players, you are placing demands on other players more, there's a knock-on effect to that and it's a really dangerous cycle."

Arteta rejected the suggestion that practice intensity were to blame, citing a lack of opportunity for sessions. He highlighted the strain on available players, some of whom have featured over 150 games in two years.

Recruitment Strategy

Despite a major off-season investment exceeding £250 million, Arteta insisted the club is not planning to enter the January recruitment market.

"At the moment we're just focusing on getting the players back and hopefully it will be a matter of a short time," he commented. "We know how crucial those coming weeks are going to be."

The squad experienced their initial defeat in 18 matches at the hands of Aston Villa, cutting their advantage at the summit of the Premier League to two clear points.
